The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Replay systems will be launched at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Athletes are granted the ability to challenge particular rulings from the chair umpire, echoing the system already in operation at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step comes just a season following the AELTC implemented ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to review specific situations, such as:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a competitor can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent case took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology are not new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews in place at all of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly 100 days to go until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
